An attorney for Random House told a jury today to ignore actress Joan Collins' movie-star allure in deciding whether she had stiffed the publisher for a $1.3 million book advance.
"Miss Collins should be treated like any other person," attorney Robert Callagy told the panel in his opening argument. "If you sign a contract, you have to live up to it."
The contract in question was a $4 million deal that required the former "Dynasty" star to produce two "ready for press" manuscripts. The publisher filed a lawsuit against Collins, saying the texts she submitted were unpublishable. She claims she delivered two and one-third ...
