NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION REPORT SHOWS

WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Salaries of classroom teachers across the country are estimated to increase to an average of $31,304 for the 1989-90 school year, a hike of 5.9 percent over last year, a new report by the National Education Association disclosed today.

"But while teacher salaries climbed past the $30,000 mark for the first time, this is still not an adequate wage for the professional services teachers perform," said NEA President Keith Geiger.
