In the year since Global Payments Inc. was spun off from National Data Corp. -- which moved squarely into the health-care field and renamed itself NDCHealth -- the electronic transaction processor has been on the acquisition trail.
Last year the Atlanta company became Canada's largest publicly traded independent processor by purchasing the merchant-acquiring businesses of both Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and National Bank of Canada.
Now, Global Payments chief executive officer Paul R. Garcia says he wants to buy smaller companies and that he's scoping out parts of Europe, Asia, and South America.
