Cox Communications New Orleans VP and GM Ray Nagin finished first in the city's mayoral primary on Feb. 2.
With 38,174 votes, or 29% of a surprisingly strong voter turnout, political newcomer Nagin beat 14 other candidates.
Because no candidate received a majority of the vote, Nagin and police chief Richard Pennington, who received 23% of the vote, will face off in a runoff election scheduled for March 2. The winner succeeds Marc Morial, who couldn't run because of term limits.
Nagin was polling at 5% after he entered the race late in December. Polls taken before the open primary showed one-third of the city's 268,000 voters were still ...
