John Molony's The Native-Born represents a successful marriage of collective biography with colonial history. As Professor Molony explains, the term native-born itself is problematic. Many associated the word "native" with the Aboriginal population, and it is perhaps this confusion which gave rise to the wealth of euphemisms for locally born whites which included "Botany Bayers", "cornstalks", "colonial youth" and "the currency".
