The heart of the Van Nuys High School boys' basketball team had to keep beating eight more minutes.

By sheer determination, it did Friday night, and that pack of unheralded Wolves used a crucial 6-0 run in the second overtime to defeat Canoga Park 70-65 for the City Section 3-A championship in front of 2,500 at Cal State Los Angeles.

It was one of the more stirring title games involving area teams in recent memory, and it produced Van Nuys' first-ever City championship.
