Ben Hogan called Oakland Hills a monster after winning the U.S. Open in 1951. Corey Pavin, who will defend his Open title at the famed course June 13-16, sees nothing that will make him disagree.
In short, it is everything a golf course should be for a major championship.
``When you look at the guys who have won here, they were all great shotmakers,'' Pavin said Monday. ``They played an all-around game of golf. They were strong golfers in all aspects of the game. That's important in all golf, but especially in majors.''
