The district's two oldest school buses will retire this fall, when new school buses sporting the latest safety features and natural-gas-burning engines are delivered by the end of the summer.
The Simi Valley Unified School District is among 48 districts in California to receive a total of 218 buses under phase three of a state plan to replace old, unsafe vehicles.
Simi Valley will receive two new diesel buses, replacing its oldest buses, built in 1961 and 1964. There are 42 buses used each school year.
