Dolores Friedman has kept her diamond drop necklace in a vault for the last five weeks.
Sheldon Friedman presented her with the 1-1/4-carat rock set in an engagement ring back in 1956, in the kitchen of her parents' Brooklyn home.
``I said, `So small,' '' she remembers with a laugh.
Small, but cherished. When his work afforded bigger and better tokens of love, she had a jeweler fashion the original stone into the pendant.
Last week, Dolores brushed her fingers across her unadorned neck, over the raised scar visible just above the rounded collar of her red blouse.
