This week at Monona Terrace, the cheese stands alone.
Formaggio, queso, fromage, Kase, ost -- no matter how you say it, or slice it, one cheese will be deemed the planet's best.
On the heels of the Olympics comes the biennial World Championship Cheese Contest this Tuesday through Friday. Its distinctly international flavor includes a record 1,132 entries from 19 nations, with half of the 12-judge panel coming from outside the United States.
Sponsored by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association since 1957, the event moved to Madison from Green Bay two years ago to increase public awareness.
