Article: EDITORIAL : PANDERING AT THE PUMP RESPONSE TO RISING GASOLINE PRICES IS DOMINATED BY POLITICS.(Editorial)(Editorial)

ELECTED officials have an obligation to be responsive to the people who put them in office. But in this election year, the reaction of many officeholders to the public's anger over rising gasoline prices resembles political pandering more than reasoned responsiveness.

We aren't referring to all the demands for investigations. On the contrary, it would be helpful if the Justice Department, for one, could come up with more objective information.

What we find disconcerting is the rush by politicians to show consumers that they are doing something to reduce gasoline prices - regardless of whether their actions make sense as public policy.
