NBC cruised in and, as expected, rolled over the competition during the first Thursday night of the TV season.
The network, according to results from the 33 metered markets compiled by Nielsen Media Research, had more viewers than any other two networks combined.
Fox, which counterprograms with three shows that have ostensibly minority casts, finished second.
This is how it played out: NBC got a 20.7 rating (each point equals 970,000 households) and a 32 share (percentage of televisions in use watching a particular show), Fox an 8.4/13, ABC a 7.9/12 and CBS a 7.7/12.
