Unless there is a baseball miracle this weekend, the Chicago White Sox won't be returning to Comiskey Park in 1996. The stadium will be empty - much as it has appeared to be most of the season.

``My theory all along is that if you're in first place they will come,'' star first baseman Frank Thomas says of the disappointing home crowds.

A crowd of just 15,911 came to Wednesday night's home finale - some of them booing a team still alive in the wild card race - and that gave the White Sox a total attendance of 1,676,416 - an average of 21,220. That's a drop from 22,673 last season.
