In the Galaxy office the second week of April, staffers organized a pool. The winner would be the person who came closest to guessing what the attendance would be at the franchise's inaugural game that Sunday.

Most guesses were in the 20,000 to 30,000 range. One employee submitted his entry of 40,000. He was ridiculed.

On April 13, a crowd of 69,255 showed up at the Rose Bowl to watch the Galaxy defeat the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.

A crowd of 92,216 was at the Rose Bowl for a June 16 doubleheader that featured the United States playing Mexico and the Galaxy against Tampa Bay. For the ...
