Soon after writing my January 2002 column, "GIS Supports the War on Terrorism in Many Ways," I told the same stories to Guy Gugliotta of the Washington Post. I showed him New York City's exquisite 3-D GIS, told him how it had been lost in the World Trade Center attack and then resurrected by volunteers, and explained how it had helped in the aftermath.
