Cast urethane throwing wheels, custom formulated and manufactured by Mearthane Products, are credited with improving the accuracy of a computerized batting cage designed to emulate big league pitching. The ProBatter system features three rotating wheels, the speeds of which can be independently adjusted from 1500 to 2500 rpm to "emulate any pitch a big league pitcher can throw, except a knuckleball," according to the manufacturer, ProBatter Sports of Milford, Conn. Mearthane says that the urethane wheels provide a precise coefficient of friction for a better grip on the ball while resisting wear.
