Minneapolis Park Superintendent Mary Merrill Anderson envisions kids from the city's most-blighted areas playing ball on a state-of-the-art sports complex on the polo grounds at Fort Snelling. And she envisions them using computers in a building next to the field.

But when members of the Fort Snelling State Park Association look at the 80-foot-tall light posts, the fences and the backstops that have been erected at the complex, they say it's hard to imagine military men in the 1800s dragging artillery across what then was a training field. So, they want those "larger, above-ground and highly visible" structures removed.
