This evening lecture by Dr Norman Gault, vice chairman of the Northern Ireland Section, attracted a mixed audience to Queen's University's School of Agriculture and Food Science at Newforge Lane in Belfast. They came to hear about recent developments in the control of the European freshwater fish louse Argulus foliaceus.
This crustacean ectoparasite is one of several species found throughout the world which can, under favourable conditions, undergo population explosions resulting in epizootic diseases which often lead to extensive fish mortalities.
