EU member states opposed to the increasing pace of governance reform in Europe are manoeuvring to preserve the status quo, a leading observer of EU politics suggests.
Karel Lannoo, chief executive officer of the Council for European Policy Studies, says there is "very heavy lobbying" by EU member states, including Sweden and the Netherlands, to block efforts by the European Commission to facilitate takeovers and smooth the process of share voting across Europe.
