French winery workers have taken to the streets again in even more numbers and with more determination than last summer. After those earlier demonstrations in southern France, the government promised payments to the workers to help offset losses brought about by overproduction and a fall in prices. That aid hasn't come through yet, and the protestors are back in the streets.
News reports said that around 8,000 demonstrators battled riot police in the town of Beziers, throwing stones and firecrackers and setting fire to trees and trashcans. Police used tear gas to break up the protest.
