Just give 'em that old-time politics
It's not the usual formula for political success: Sex scandals, bribery charges and unpopular taxes. Yet even this litany of embarrassments and miscues seems unlikely to prevent Japan's long-dominant Liberal Democratic Party from racking up another victory in a hastily called February 18 national election.
The LDP has not recovered completely from a year of setbacks that toppled two Prime Ministers and cost it control of the upper house of the Diet, the Japanese parliament, last July.
