For some time, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague have been experimenting with embedded rail for short sections of light rail routes, especially where highway and light rail lines intersect. Netherlands Railways (NS) has also been using embedded rail on a much larger scale, especially on bridges and level crossings.
