The tactics attributed to the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) certainly are criminal -- arson, vandalism and other sorts of sabotage. Critics, including some members of Congress, are asking that the groups be considered terrorists of the same caliber as the al-Qaeda organization (which seems a bit of a stretch) and that their contributors be punished for providing support.
Among those contributors are said to be People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. In both of those cases the contributions have been lone, minimal, isolated circumstances.
