PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. _ Over at Charlotte County Stadium, a couple hundred yards up the shell path, Boston fans are booing Carl Everett and the Red Sox are pummeling John Rocker and Rocker's volcanic head is about to blow clean off its thick neck.
But here on the pastoral minor league fields, where fans in lawn chairs are as placid as cows and players romp in blissful anonymity, Doug Melvin is oblivious.
Not that he doesn't care about the Rangers anymore. In his new job as a consultant with Boston, he has other players to occupy him now. Younger, cheaper players, the kind he rarely had time for in his old job.
Oh, he'd go to Tulsa, maybe, to ...
