In 1992, when our daughter, Annelise, was 4 years old, she was diagnosed with myopathy, a rare muscle disease. Annelise's muscles are so weakened that she needs a respirator much of the time to help her breathe. She pretty much lives in her wheelchair and her bed, and she requires round-the-clock nursing care.
