Collins & Aikman looks to buy German company
Interior-trim supplier Collins & Aikman Corp., in a bid to boost its global business, is in talks to buy part or all of a German manufacturer of automotive acoustic materials.
HP-Chemie Pelzer GmbH of Witten, Germany, would give Collins & Aikman increased presence in Europe and greater access to DaimlerChrysler AG - already its largest customer - on both continents, said people familiar with the German company.
Pelzer posted an estimated $450 million in sales last year, about $80 million of that in the United States.
