More than 470 children in Onondaga, Madison, Cayuga and Oswego counties entered the American Red Cross contest to help Cool Cat teach smoke detector safety to Central New Yorkers.
There were 12 winners, each of whom was awarded a $50 savings bond. This page includes the three winning entries by children from this county, their photos and their view of how the Red Cross helps people.
During March, which is National Red Cross Month, the agency reminds people that smoke detector batteries should be changed yearly.
