LOS ANGELES _ It's no secret that Jodie Foster was not the first choice to play the lead in "Panic Room."
Foster was approached when Nicole Kidman had to bow out after injuring her knee. Her desire to work with red-hot director David Fincher ("Fight Club," "Seven") was one reason Foster agreed to pinch-hit for Kidman.
The other: "I like playing fear," Foster says. "I think fear is interesting."
Her performance drew raves from Fincher. "I never thought of her for this, because she was producing `Flora Plum,'" Fincher says. "Back then we cast (as the daughter) Kristen Stewart, who looks like a young Jodie Foster. We found out Jodie's movie fell ...
