2002 APR 2 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Former South African President Nelson Mandela suggested that AIDS drugs be made accessible to all South Africans who need them but said he did not intend to contradict government policy.

Speaking at a news conference March 3, 2002, and flanked by top government officials, Mandela tried to clarify his seemingly contradictory statements in recent weeks about the government's approach to fighting the AIDS pandemic that threatens to devastate the country.
