AFTER the death of the King in February 1952, Elizabeth moved into a new role - as The Queen Mother.
She chose the title herself but to the nation as a whole, she was soon known simply, and affectionately, as the Queen Mum.
She was also honorary granny to the entire nation.
Every year crowds came to stand outside her home at Clarence House to wish her a happy birthday.
