The market size of glass containers and glass ware in the country has declined during the crisis forcing producers to seek to increase exports. In 2000, exports totaled 300,086 tons valued at US$ 122.37 million, surging from 108,916 tons in 1998 when the crisis was at its worst.

The export value, however, was still not as high as in 1996 when exports were valued at US$ 131.17 million. The rupiah fall made Indonesian products more competitive in price in international market.
