ARKANSAS HAS MOBILIZED seven state agencies to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson's titanic land deal with Napoleon and the state's role in the purchase that doubled the area of the United States.
Coordinated by Secretary of State Sharon Priest's office, the projected 2003 Louisiana Purchase bicentennial celebration includes plans for festivities and educational activities to commemorate the 1803 purchase of land that would become Arkansas and 12 other states as well as the critical 1815 survey of the new territory.
