After more than a dozen years of sitting behind a court bench, former Minnesota Appeals Court Judge Roland Amundson quietly walked into a Hennepin County courtroom on Monday morning and stood staring at the bench from the defendant's side.
Minutes later, he admitted to stealing more than $300,000 from a mentally disabled woman's trust fund and said he could not explain why. Giving sometimes vague answers on the witness stand, he agreed that the thefts may have begun in October 1995.
Amundson, 52, pleaded guilty to the five counts of felony theft by swindle that prosecutors had charged him with in February.
