Peanut butter is big business in the United States. Makers of the creamy/crunchy spread report combined annual sales exceeding $1 billion and more than 5 percent average yearly sales growth.
While peanut butter has become a mainstay in the U.S. diet, its form is evolving to meet consumer demand. In 2001, the candy manufacturing company Russell Stover introduced peanut butter and jelly cup chocolates. Under the Jif brand name, flavored peanut butters were also launched such as chocolate silk and apple cinnamon.
