Karrin Allyson: Ballads (Remembering John Coltrane) (Concord Jazz CCD-4950-2)
This is a really good album that could have been a really great album. The concept is bold: a jazz vocal album of the ballads associated with John Coltrane's classic Ballads album, plus a few other classic Coltrane ballads. The band is top-flight: James Williams on piano, John Patitucci on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, and saxophonists Bob Berg, James Carter, and Steve Wilson on various cuts.
