Dish Network and DIRECTV announced in late October their plans to merge. If they are successful, the citizens of Wisconsin will be the beneficiaries of the new products and services that the combined company will be able to offer.
This merger has the ability to positively affect far more people than the millions of television viewers who would benefit from the added competition. It would benefit Internet users by providing a new source of reasonably priced high-speed access. It would also benefit the thousands of small and large businesses in rural and urban Wisconsin who are becoming more and more reliant on telecommunications.
