For more than 25 years _ at least since publication of ``The Adams Chronicles'' _ books about the prickly, prominent Adamses of Quincy, Mass., have periodically settled in for long residence on the bestseller lists.
Now, as David McCullough's biography of John Adams enters its 42nd week on the New York Times' list, some readers may wonder if we really want or need yet another look at John (lawyer, revolutionary, president, and sage) _ or even at the others of the brood on whom Richard Brookhiser trains his historian's eye: John Quincy (diplomat, president, and antislavery stalwart); Charles Francis (Civil War ambassador and family historian); and Henry (historian ...
