Phillip E. Hammond has had a long and productive career as a sociologist of religion. His latest book consists of fourteen essays published in the fifteen years before his retirement in 2001. Eight of them are collaborative efforts. All have been revised and updated to some extent. With a few important exceptions, the essays deal with issues pertaining to religion in the United States.
