IN the last year of her life the Queen Mother spent pounds 4million - more than pounds 1million above her income.
Despite an annual income of at least pounds 2.7million she died leaving debts believed to be around pounds 7million.
Her lavish spending went on the running of four official residences, 100 servants and a passion for horse-racing and entertaining.
The annual wages bill for her 100-plus retinue of full-time staff and seasonal workers was pounds 2.5milion.
