Thousands of people queued in the streets last night to pay their final respects to the Queen Mother.
The young and the old, from across the country, the Commonwealth and beyond, waited to file past her coffin as it lay in state in the medieval splendour of Westminster Hall.
At the centre of this 11thcentury chamber, in the heart of Parliament, rested the vivid purple catafalque draped with the Queen Mother's Royal standard, itself ablaze with reds and yellows.
