Written by one of the leading authorities on the Protestant context of English Renaissance literature, Milton and Religious Controversy: Satire and Polemic in Paradise Lost is a wonderful little book whose relative brevity might conceal how much material John N. King (Ohio State University) manages to pack into 195 pages of text. The general thrust of the book is one to which I have long warmed--namely, that John Milton's works reveal many of their resonances when placed into a Puritan context (King's preferred term is "antiformalist").
