On TV, he is called "the Crocodile Hunter." But Steve Irwin does not hunt to kill animals. He hunts to rescue them.
"I put my life on the line to save animals," said Irwin. "If I have to save a koala, crocodile, kangaroo, or a snake, I will save it."
For example, Irwin once went to Africa to capture a deadly snake. It was a 12-foot black mamba. It had killed seven people in a village. The villagers wanted to kill the snake. Irwin wanted to help both the snake and the people.
Irwin hunted down the snake. He picked it up with his bare hands. Then he moved it away from the village. Now the people and the snake are safe.
