On September 8, 1996 Tupac Shakur, one of America's most brilliant, controversial and commercially successful rap stars, was shot as he sat in a black BMW 750 saloon, waiting at a traffic light in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died in hospital, five days later. He was 25.
Six months after this, on March 9, 1997, a second rap idol was murdered.
Christopher Wallace, alias Biggie Smalls, alias the Notorious B.I.G., was also shot in a car, in Los Angeles.
