Apr. 11--WASHINGTON--The state's congressional delegation wants the federal government to review its Harbor Maintenance Tax, after Volkswagen decided to shift shipping of 82,000 cars a year from the Port of Boston to Rhode Island because the city is forced to impose the tax, but its competitor is exempted.
The switch, which will occur at the end of the year, will save Volkswagen $2 million a year because it paid a tax of about $25 on each of the Audis and Volkswagens it imported through Boston last year.
