NOTHING less than spectacular were the rendition conductor Ruggero Barbieri, soloist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, as they delivered the superb compositions by highly-rated contemporary American composers Leonard Bernstein, ("West Side Story: Symphonic Dances" and "Candide Overture"); Aaron Copland ("An Outdoor Overture"); and Samuel Barber ("Piano Concerto op. 38").
Excitingly and thrillinglynew were the sounds of these contemporary composers - with "wild" and "explosive" percussive effects.
Guest conductor Ruggero Barbieri was in fine form too, masterfully delivering these massive and avant-garde scores.
