TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. (AP) -- An elderly resident of the northeastern Lower Peninsula who died this year was infected with bovine tuberculosis, although that wasn't the cause of death, state officials said Wednesday.
The person was the first known to have contracted the strain of bovine TB that has been detected in cattle, deer and other animals in northeastern Michigan since the mid-1990s, officials said.
Authorities are investigating how the person became infected.
