The man killed in a confrontation with an off-duty sheriff's deputy Sunday was seriously wounded in a 1972 shootout with police and once pleaded guilty to assault for shooting a man after losing a bet on a tavern pool game.
Details of Robert Lee Thomas Sr.'s previous run-ins with police emerged as the slain man's family yesterday called for criminal sanctions against King County sheriff's Deputy Mel Miller, who fatally shot Thomas as the 59-year-old trucker sat in a pickup along a rural King County road.
