2002 APR 16 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in the United States say that a novel compound shows promise for the treatment of illnesses caused by respiratory syncytial virus.
"Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a paramyxovirus, is a major cause of acute upper and lower respiratory tract infections in infants, young children, and adults," explained Clayton C. Huntley and colleagues at Wyeth-Ayerst Research in Pearl River, New York, Virion Systems, Inc., in Rockville, Maryland, and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
