WASHINGTON--As the Air Force moves to modernize its tanker fleet of Boeing [BA] KC-135 and KC-10 aircraft, service Secretary Jim Roche sees merit in acquiring aerial refueling jets from both Boeing and Europe's Airbus to ensure that future technical problems with either of the company's aircraft don't leave the service with a fleet that is entirely grounded, officials said.
