BAG after bag of compost is being bought this month as people make up the pots and hanging baskets they hope will decorate their patios all summer. How long their flowers actually flourish will depend largely on whether they buy the best mixture for the job.
The word "compost" is used a little too freely in gardening magazines and on television, often without a clear distinction being made between the different types and their uses.
In fact, it is not necessary to pay a penny for compost.
